Rest in Feodosia

Theodosia was founded more then 2530 years ago by Greeks from Millet. So, it's one of the ancient towns in Ukraine.

Many centuries the sea had determinated the fate of the town, presented the basical item of it's life and rise. The famous writer Chehov A. P. wrote that the sea here "┘is wonderful, dark blue and mild, you can live here 1000 years and you are not boring here. Bathing is so good, that I'm dipping and become laughing without any reason". That's why Aivazovsky had chosen this place for all his life.

The sea is not the only adorning of Theodosia, the microclimate is a very good here too. The sun is sunlit this city the whole year. Sun shining is nearly 2272 hours in a year. It's more then other southern resorts have received. There is a good, fresh and dry air in Theodosia. There is no smokes at all. Parely, in the hottest and the calmest day, suddenly the sky is covering with the clouds and heavy shower is drifting on the town. Thunderstorms are accompanying with such heavy shower.

The geographical position of Theodosia had determinated the historical fate. The town was founded in the middle of VI century during the Great Greek colonization, they called it Theodosia, (translated from Greece "The God's Giving"). In the end of XIII century Theodosia was owned by Italian trade city Genoa. Genoa merchants called it Kaffa, they transformed it in a mighty castle, surrounded by walls, by moats and by towers, ruins of which are keeping till our days.

Kaffa was known by its part. Black Sea shore became a crossroad of trade ways from Europe to West and East. The city minted their own coins. In the end of XV century. Kaffa was seized by Turkey. More then 100 years the city had a gloomy fame of the center of slave-trade. In the End of XVIII century the city had returned it's ancient name - Theodosia.

Those, who want to see Theodosia and it's surround from bird's - eye - view, usually, rise on the top of the mountain Mitridat, which is situated on the north - eastern part of the town. The town seam's a big model, which you can learn by hours and find the new interesting details in it.

The city - amphitheatre is situated near foots of the mountains on the shore of the gulf and on the side of the raise of Tepe-Oba, covering the city from north - cast. This raise iscomplet the main ridge of Crimea mountains on the East. The separate standing mountain - Lusaya is lock up the raise from western part. Under the mountain, at the bottom, the old city is situated. All the territory is having build and new building is not breaching among old building.
The old part of the town is a historical and an architectural museum with characteristic features of Middle Ages. From the eastern part you can see the ruins of great defend walls and castles, the ancients bridge through the ditch. There are saving the masonry stout walls of Quarantine, which were built in the last century for the meeting Mohammedan pilgrims, following from Russia through the port of Theodosia to Mecca and Medina. In the V century of our era the Quarantine still was the center of antique town.

Among the Middle Ages monuments affracts the mosque with the leourings of minaret built in 1623. In the old part of the town the half part of the corner wall of the towel of St. Constantine is raising. In the system of fortification of the town it engaged the special place. Once this towel was the castle and the arsenal. They kept arms and ammunition by cause of the war. In the city you can see Armenian temples, built in XIV - XV centuries.

The Center of Theodosia is situated in the eastern part of the city. It's rise after the railway station building at the and of the last century. It's the most reviving part of the town. The center of this part of the town is Primorsky Boulevard. This is the place of evening walks, the place of meetings and dates. Not far from here, near the bottom of Genoa Castle there is a Urban Garden. In the square, there is a bronze monument of A. S. Pushkine. The port visited Theodosia in August in 1820. He directed to Gurzuf from here by sea. The sculptor represented Pushkine in the whole height. The view of the poet converted to the sea, the beauty and the greatness of which subdued him at the time of the traveling on the Crimea.

Each town have the place, which make use of special love among the citizens, and they are proud of it. It's a Picture Gallery of Aivazovsky in Theodosia. It's front decorate with two memorial boards: "In this house I lived and worked Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky" and "My sincere wish, the building of my picture gallery in Theodosia with all pictures in it, statues, and other works of art, which are situated in this gallery, made the whole property of the town Theodosia, and in memory about me, Aivazovsky, leave the town of Theodosia, my native town". In front of the gallery - there is a bronze statue of the painter, sitting on the pedestal with the palette and with the paint-brush and peering into the sea. Down on this foot there is a note "Theodosia - Aivazovsky".

Literature - lover will visit the house N 10 on Galereinay street, where is situated the literary-memorial museum of Green A. S. A. S. Green, the great romantic, the favorite write of teenagers, since 1924 till 1930. It was the second visit the write in Theodosia. The first was at 1905. It was not successful: he was supply here from Sevastopol as the political prisoner. In Theodosian prison A. S. Green was under arrest for the revolutionary propaganda among the sailors.

Theodosian sea shore with clear washed golden sand is stretch for a ten sq. kil. Primorsky is situated in the center of Theodosian gulf in which the shore of sand get into the shore of pebbly. It is a very pleasure to lie on a sand and enter into the sea at the bottom of sand. Every person can find their bottom.

At the end of horizon the sea is calm and dark; it borders with the sky. The sky is a calm, a one-color, but whitish. And the waves are swash friendly and joyful. They are joyously splash all over. Theodosia is a big resort. In sanatoriums are widely used the mineral water "Theodosia" for treatment the disease of digestive organs. The spring is situated near the city on the bottom of the Lusaya mountain.

The season for sunburn is beginning of May and it's finishing in November.
